Hi, I'm Rebecca Edelman
I'm a Mechanical Engineer that believes work should be fun
01 About me
R
I'm Rebecca Edelman, a graduate student at Duke pursuing a masters in mechanical engineering with a focus on robotics and the medical device industry.

I'm passionate about developing technologies that have a direct impact on improving people's lives, and I enjoy tackling complex technical challenges while staying grounded in meaningful work. As a galvanizer, I translate ideas into actionable solutions and foster collaboration across teams.
I aim to push the boundaries of innovation, contributing to projects that make a real difference while continuously learning. I'm seeking a company where I can grow technically and work on projects that truly matter.

Throughout my experiences, I've demonstrated strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to creating meaningful solutions. Here are 10 examples that showcase how I bring these qualities to the projects I work on:

1. Designed a robotic arm to test an IMU integral to device functionality, reducing test time from 15 minutes to 95 seconds by shifting from manual, qualitative testing to automated testing with real-time data visualization and post-test analysis.

2. Designed custom mechanical components in OnShape and developed 1500+ lines of Python code to integrate I2C and Bluetooth communication with real-time data streaming, driving system efficiency.

3. Led a team of 15 students to design a prosthetic leg for a dog in need, ensuring affordability for the family by fostering a positive team environment and setting high goals.

4. Designed and implemented a test procedure to analyze the forces on an I-beam critical to the Sureform Surgical Stapler's performance, providing key insights for algorithm optimizations and advancing test methodologies.

5. Identified a recurring issue in the reload process and independently designed a part that tripled unloading efficiency, significantly improving user experience.

6. Collaborated across cross-functional teams to identify potential causes of RMAs using mechanical and statistical analysis.

7. Maintained frequent communication with a client to schedule meetings, track progress, and offer ongoing updates, creating a seamless experience despite industry differences.

8. Established a strategic partnership with a Duke trauma surgeon specializing in medical device production, successfully securing resources and future project opportunities.

9. Gave an oral presentation in front of over 100 people that used Constructal Theory to predict the minimum size at which a UAV must be tethered in order to support its energy requirements.

10. Guided 5 different medical device project leads, accelerating each of their timelines and removing obstacles to ensure respective project success.
